How to Avoid Injury While Biking

As the weather gets nicer, many people enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, kayaking, and swimming. With these activities comes strains to the muscles and nerves.

Bikers may experience hand pain and decreased grip strength. These symptoms are typically caused by placing too much weight on the handlebars, and hyperextending the wrist.

There are a variety of ways to protect oneself from these symptoms:

  • Frequently change hand position on handle bars.
  • Gel padded gloves/padded handlebars.
  • Find the correct bike for your body. The distance from the elbow to the tip of the fingers should equal the distance from the “nose” of the seat to the “stem” of the handlebar.
